Self care isn't a selfish thing, in fact I believe it's a necessity. As mothers we tend to take care of everyone else first. Our spouse, our children, our work... etc. We end up becoming depleted and a lesser version of who we really are meant to be. Self care should become a daily habit, when I carve out a little time for myself, I become more focused and grounded, I feel good about myself and i'm more relaxed which allows me to radiate a positive energy that in turn passes to my family. Two things I love to do daily are dry brushing and Jade rolling. Let's talk a little about dry brushing first.
When dry brushing, It sloughs away dead and dry skin, so it improves the appearance as well as combats cellulite, yep, it helps with cellulite. It's also a detoxifier, the gentle strokes allows for the lymph fluid to move to your lymph nodes quicker than our body does naturally helping in the waste process. It boosts circulation and sends oxygenated blood to the skin as well as other organs helping them do their jobs even better! Plus it feels great so it's a win win.
How to dry brush: Start at your hands and with a light circular motion, work your way up your arms and down towards your heart center. Then start at your feet and work your way through your entire body coming to heart center once again.
Now for Jade rolling! I had heard about Jade rolling not too long ago and I was definitely curious. Lucky for me, Goddess provisions, a monthly subscription box with all things holistic and spiritual sent me a gift to try their service. That months box happened to have the Jade roller! Let me simply say, it works. I was excited and of course a little sceptic but it's been around for centuries so I new there had to be some truth to it. In traditional Chinese medicine as well as its recent take over in well known spas across the globe, Jade rolling boosts the skins circulation, de puffs the eye area and actually the entire face ( I swear my face is more sculpted after I use) improves skins elasticity, and of course, is a detoxifier because the motion and pressure promotes lymphatic drainage. Again, another win win. Check out goddessprovisions.com to subscribe to their amazing boxes.
How to Jade Roll: Keep your Jade roller in the freezer, or if you're like me and forget unless it's visible to you, place it in the freezer for a few minutes right before you wash your face. After your moisturizer, simply stroke the roller in small upward motions over your face. Make sure to include your neck. It comes with a long and short side, I like to use the long side for my cheeks, forehead and neck. I keep the small side for my nose, just under the eyes and temples.
